A little trip to Wales.

imageimageWe had a nice little trip to Wales this weekend and did a bit of exploring.

We stopped in at Galeri Betws-y-Coed. They have some really nice ceramics and painting. I think they are part of the Collector Plan which allows you to buy local art interest free and spread the cost over 10 months. The Galeri has some unique jewellery collections and my favourite was Kate Hamilton-Hunter. Some of her designs are based on old patterned tins which makes them really different.

We had lunch at The Ugly House. It is unclear as to who built it and when, but it is now owned by the Snowdonia Society. The Ugly House has a Honeybee Room which runs a breeding programme for local honeybees and allows “visitors to learn about the fascinating life of one of our most precious insects, the honeybee.” The food here is delicious and homemade and it is a good place for children who are into their creepy crawlies and want to learn interesting things to do in the garden to encourage honeybee use.

On our way to The Ugly House we drove from Trefriw down a narrow and spectacular road. There were plenty of places to stop and go for a walk along the way, but for those who just want to take in the scenery there is a spot called Ty n Llwyn. The views are breathtaking and it is an ideal picnic place.imageimage
